Sample Sunday- Melvita Bio-Excellence Moisturizing Serum

I’m pretty late with this addition to Sample Sundays, sorry! I let time slip away from me…because….well….Pokemon. Yep, Pokemon is out with its newest version, X&Y, and I just can’t stop. With an all-cat team, I’m gonna be the best-like no one ever was! (duh-duh duh DUH!). Plus, I must have EVERY EEVEE EVOLUTION! ALL the eevees!!!

:cough: But enough of that, lets move to today’s product! Just this year I started using a serum in my evening face routine, and it’s made a WORLD of difference! Have you ever seen those ads or commercials where women are kinda patting/poking their face to show how plump it is? I always thought it was so….stupid. But after using serums, I finally understand! Your face is just loaded with moisture, and really feels plump and rich.

I may be in the market for a new one after I finish my bottle from Aesop (grrrrrr the packaging is REALLY frustrating….), and I was given a sample from Melvita the last time I stopped in. Why not start exploring my options now?

Out of the 3 serums available, I was given Melvita’s Bio-Excellence Moisturizing serum. I don’t have dry skin- I’m rather normalish with the hormonal acne breakout along my chin. Still, winter is coming (*hehe*), so why not add some extra moisture to my routine. This serum is fragrance free, which is great for sensitive skin. It’s also allergen free, and claims to be for all skin types. So far so good! After cleansing and toning, I reached for the packet.

Unlike my Aesop, Melvita’s serum is a cloudy, thick liquid. I actually didn’t notice this at first when I was pulling it out of the sample packet, but since there were leftovers I wanted to try and get the best bang for my non-existent-buck and portion another use out of it. It spread across my face rather smooth like, and I immediately noticed it felt rather heavy for me. I gave it a couple minutes to dry, and still noticed the heavier layer on my skin. It never really “sank in”- maybe my skin just wasn’t thirsty enough? I finished my evening skincare routine with a layer of moisturizer, and enjoyed a good night’s sleep.

Well, the next morning- BAM! New acne! Mind you, not even my hormonal acne! I had fresh little white bumps on both of my cheeks, and a couple on my forehead. This is definitely a rarity for me, and nothing in my usual routine was different aside the serum. Grrrr! So I put the leftovers aside and waited for my face to recover, which luckily didn’t take long. Mustering up some courage, I tried the serum again in my evening routine, using less than I had previously. The next day, I didn’t have a negative effect like before, but just overall wasn’t impressed. I didn’t have that “plump” feeling my face has had with my other serum. That combined with the paranoia of acne, I’ve just become weary of this product. My mind is still hopefully for the other two they have (a brightening serum and an anti-aging serum), so I may still give them a shot if I can get my hands on more sample packets. Overall though, my mind hasn’t been swayed from my current Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant serum. Do you have any cruelty free serum favs? Or did you have a positive experience with this serum?

Regular size = 30ml

Bottom line: Blushing Biddies ….. weary. T-T
