A look into beauty, that doesn't harm our furry friends
Lately I’ve been on the hunt for a good deodorant. One that not only was cruelty free, but also was free of any aluminum. But April, what’s the deal with aluminum? Glad you asked- aluminum is the main component that keeps your pits sweat-free, but in short it just clogs your pores and can potentially be bad for you. My grandmother passed away from breast cancer, and I’d like to do anything I can to keep my body healthy. So this brought up the great debate: which deodorant reigns supreme?
I consider a successful deodorant one that keeps both odor and perspiration at bay, and none of these could live up to my expectations. Melvita’s product was the closest one in the trio to a success, but it is something I just can’t recommend. The scent is -awful- (wasabi, really? I’ll just stick to having it on my sashimi k thx). Even if you could smell this instead of your own natural ‘scent’, it wasn’t very pleasant. It also did nothing for anti-perspiration. As for the other two, I’m not even going to type out their full names because honestly they were just a waste of time and money. The crystal stick is literally a stick- you run it under water, and then apply to your underarms. It’s a unique idea, but just doesn’t cut it. As for the Naturally Fresh, it’s just like Melvita’s roller ball application, but did nothing.
With three out, we’re down to the final two! Who will reign supreme? Well let’s talk about each product’s strengths. First off, Primal Pit Paste. The scent I chose was Thyme & Lemongrass, but they have a few others to choose from as well ( unscented, Lavender, and Orange Creamsicle, as well as Corriander & Sage for sensitive skin). The product comes both in stick form and in a jar, where it is a paste, hence the company’s name. You can read through the short ingredient list and understand everything: Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Arrowroot Powder, Organic Beeswax, Aluminum Free Baking Soda and Essential Oils. Plus, this product doesn’t stain your shirts with any white residue, huzzah! As for it’s competition, we have Lavanilla’s The Healthy Stick deodorant in Pure Vanilla. The scent is perfect, not overpowering but like a true vanilla. There are a lot of other scents, but all are combined with vanilla as well (vanilla lemon, vanilla blackberry, vanilla passion fruit, etc.). The one shown above is a travel size I picked up from Sephora in their impulse-buy selection by the register, and I love keeping this guy on hand both when I travel or when I have a long day in my purse. While the ingredient list is a little longer, it’s still easy to understand and comes out being vegan! So the question remains: which one wins?
For me, hands down Primal Pit Paste takes the gold. Usually for aluminum free deodorants, you need to apply an extra 1-2x during the day, but PPP lasts all day with just one application (even to the next day if I don’t shower). It’s easy to apply, I’m head over heels for the scent, and it never stains my clothes. I’ve even gone through international flights with this guy one, and where I usually feel like I have a lil’ funk coming off me, this guy still smells like delicious lemongrass. Even my husband uses this! He definitely has a stronger…’scent’ than I do, but I can literally put my face to his underarm with no fear after he comes home from work. I’ve never been able to do that guys, this stuff is insane. You can buy Primal Pit Paste from their website here or through Amazon. I’d definitely recommend signing up for their newsletter, as they do send out coupon codes somewhat often. Hope this post helps out, I’m pretty sure I’ll be sticking with this stuff for a very long time.
