Blushing Biddies

A look into beauty, that doesn't harm our furry friends

A Birthday Makeover at Sephora

This week on Blushing Biddies, I’m recapping the goodies I tried out & purchased for my birthday. I’m a little late posting it, as the ‘big day’ was March 18th. I swear I didn’t have a hangover for THAT long. Even with St. Patrick’s Day being the day before my own special holiday, lol.

To start off, I decided that on the 18th I would treat myself to a few goodies at Sephora that I’ve been longing for (which my next post will be all about my purchases!). As I did my usual routine of online window-shopping and making my list, I clicked on over to Sephora’s store locator page to find this:

For a custom makeover, all I had to do was schedule it in advance and spend at least $50 in the store that day. My list was already almost double that, so I really wasn’t concerned about meeting the limit, yikes!  What girl doesn’t love a makeover though? I was more excited about asking questions and learning techniques, so I immediately signed up.

I arrived to my appointment a few minutes ahead of schedule, and I was paired up with a makeup artist. She was such a delight, and I later found out that she’s been in the makeup business for over 10 years, so she definitely knew her stuff! I don’t know about you, but just knowing that the person working on your face really knows their stuff makes the process more fun. Just so you get an idea of what happened, here’s a shot of me before my beautiful “transformation”.

The beginning. Nothing on, and not even a great shot bc of lighting, LOL!

The makeup artist asked a lot of questions to help cater to my specific needs: all cruelty free brands, what kind of look am I going for, what brands do I usually gravitate towards, what is my usual makeup routine, my holy grail products, etc. None of the ladies and gents in Sephora are working off commission, and it was so nice to see all the work she was doing to really cater to me. I didn’t really take shots of the process, but I made sure to snap pics of all the products she brought over and used!

All the makeup!

The base

more foundation related items, plus the mascara

the amazing Urban Decay Naked Flush compact, ready to help out with contouring, blush, and highlighting all at once!

the infamous Urban Decay Naked 2 palette

we played with a lot of lippy products, even combining some ❤

After about an hour of makeup application and fun chatting, this is how I walked out:

The final product! I feel so perdy! ❤

The makeup consolations are only at select Sephora stores (most likely not any that are in the JC Pennys, but I’m not positive!!). If you’re not compulsive-buying anything, and are prepping a haul, why not take Sephora up on this offer? You can do it to learn, or just to prep yourself before a date night. Either way, I might become best friends with the ladies at my local store, because I am a newbie makeup lover and I want to learn all the techniques and cruelty free products. A very successful birthday outing, if you ask me.

Let me know if you’ve ever done a makeover at Sephora before, I’d love to hear about your experiences!

I’ve never had my makeup for the fear of them pushing non cruelty free products. But I guess I should just give it a try!!
    Thanks for sharing your experience!

Kaitie- I never even thought of that being a possibility! Just so you know, you fill out all your preferences when you make your reservation online. I think you’d be fine! Plus, I’m the type of gal where if that DID happen, I’d be blunt and stand my ground. I think more ppl should try this out, maybe Sephora will see a bigger crowd of shoppers who only want cruelty free. :3

It’s so good that the makeup artists don’t work on commission. God, I wish we had Sephora in the UK x

Hopefully they’ll branch out soon!! Especially since they ship to the UK now. I wonder if they’re just afraid of the competition? If you ever visit the states, you have this on your ‘to-do’ list :3

I have a massive US makeup wish list. A trip to the states will probably bankrupt me but at least I’ll be pretty!x

I swear if sending nail polishes internationally wasn’t banned I would totally do a makeup swap with you D: Stupid laws!

What an odd law. Is nail polish thought to be a threat to international security? Should I worry about its hidden agenda in my makeup drawer?x
