Blushing Biddies

A look into beauty, that doesn't harm our furry friends

My must-have nail products

I never thought I’d be the kinda gal who would change her nails 2-3x a week, but the day has come! Throughout the whole process, I’ve definitely learned some good tips and tricks in taking care of my nails, so that polish will last longer and removal isn’t a pain in the …ya’know, hehe. First, let’s start with prepping your nails before painting polish on. The Body Shop has a nail block, which involves 4 different steps. First off is a regular ol’ nail file for the ends of the nails. Second is a smoothing phase to even things out and remove stains. Third is a buff to make sure everything is as even as possible while not being too abrasive. The last stage is all about shine (my favorite, you HAVE to try this! It really makes your nails soo shiny- perfect if you just want to have clean looking nails with no polish even on them). Properly prepping your nails before applying polish has made a world of difference for me, both in the finished look and longevity of the manicure. Next up is Orly’s Bonder basecoat– this is a MUST HAVE if you do glitter manicures. Instead of going through the horrendous process of removing glitter polish, I’ve found this this I can peel off an entire coat of polish in one-go. Granted, I don’t like to suggest this for use 24/7, but it does help shorten the process. Aside from being great for glitter, the Bonder basecoat claims to help polish stay on nails, resulting in manicures lasting longer. Next up is another product from Orly, their Sec n’ Dry quick-dry topcoat. If you’re the kind of goofball like me that always seems to smudge your manicure no matter how long you let them dry, then you need to get your hands on this! It does exactly what it claims, and I can go about my business like a normal person after I let this set for a minute or two on my nails. Plus, it provides a decent amount of shine like any other topcoat, so I don’t see the harm in using this as my topcoat for any manicure!

A product that deserves an honorable mention is Burt’s Bee’s Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. On days when I’m not wearing polish, along with those times when my cuticles are just feeling too dry, I turn to this little guy. Although it’s a solid product, it applies to the nail and melts in like a dream. And the scent.. ooooh, the scent! If you like lemons, this will not disappoint. Before having this product I just used plain beauty oils, but I definitely have come to prefer this over the oils. There is no greasy residue, the scent is amazing, and I like how it isn’t a very messy process.
