100% Pure Cosmetics Black Tea Mascara

I’ve been feelin’ the random week-brand-themes for blogging here on Blushing Biddies, and this week it’s gonna be all about 100% Pure! I have some products I’ve had in my collection for a few months, and others I’ve just recently hauled. The good thing though is that there is PLENTY of variety in here! Before talking about the first product, I want to lay out the background of this company for those who are hearing this brand name for the first time. 100% Pure is a cruelty free and vegan makeup/skincare line based in California. From their website, “100% products are truly 100% Pure-no synthetic chemicals, chemical preservatives, artificial fragrances, artificial colors, harsh detergents or any other unhealthy toxins.”. Truly this is a skincare line that’s perfect for those who buy cruelty free products, along with those who are focused more into natural beauty. They started out with a few shops in California and opened up their website for online purchases. Yet recently they have been expanding their stores, and just touched down in Seattle and Chicago. If you want more info about products and the company, I would highly recommend checking out their FAQ page.

The first product I’d like to talk about is one that I absolutely love- the Black Tea Pigmented Ultra-Length mascara. You’re probably wondering, “oh it’s black so they just went with the name black tea”. Nooooo, noo noo noo! This mascara actually get’s it’s black color FROM black tea! Insane, right? As mentioned above, all colors from 100% Pure are naturally derived, and so by a combination of black tea and other berry pigments they were able to formulate a black mascara. There are other colors in their mascara collection too (brown, blue, and a blue/purple-“blackberry”), the blackberry one sounds especially enticing to me. It’s also noteworthy to mention that since 100% Pure is naturally derived and free of synthetic chemicals and preservatives, it should be suitable for those with sensitive eyes as well. Not only that, but the formula is actually good for the lashes, containing ProVitamin B5, Vitamin E, Oat and Wheat protein to condition. So you’re not just putting on mascara for the looks, but there are the healthy long-term benefits. All of this goodness is encased in a sleek mirror-metal cylinder tube, decorated with a beautiful white floral-vine print.

a lil’ blurry, sorry you guys! >0< (and wow, what a change from warm BG to cool BG, yeesh!)

Looking inside the packaging, the brush is your average synthetic-bristle wand, with a very slight concave shape. Since the bristles are a bit more of a “loosely” shaped design, it helps lashes lengthen and separate lashes. With that said, I do not believe this is the type of mascara that volumizes much at all- nor does it claim to be. I’m perfectly happy with that, as I do like a mascara with a more natural look. The combination of the bristles and the formula create beautifully long and defined lashes. The single coat alone is plenty for me. I personally don’t layer mascara, so I can’t say much if you apply a second or third coat. My lashes definitely appear longer, and the formula never clumps or flakes off throughout the day. 100% Pure claims this to be a waterproof formula… which I’m not sure I agree with. There was one day I was outside and it just started to rain. A big ol’ rain drop splatted around my eye, and my husband immediately noticed my mascara was running. And he never notices anything- food in my teeth, nasty acne, a smudge on my face *sigh*. Once I pulled out my mirror, I realized it pretty much was a hot mess! So I never wear this mascara on rainy days. Also, it washes off easily. Usually I can get all of it off with just a makeup removing towelette. Don’t get me wrong- I can wear this mascara with no problems, aside the water bit. I’ve never had a problem with smudging, and truth be told this actually is one of my top 2 mascaras. Oh, and did I mention that the formula has a faint scent of blueberries? It’s pretty amazing, y’all.

So, to summarize:

Pros-

  • natural formula
  • great for sensitive eyes
  • lengthens and separates
  • makeup + conditioner in 1
  • easy to remove
  • doesn’t smudge

Cons-

  • doesn’t volumize
  • not waterproof

I use to use 100% pure cosmetics eye cream, and I felt like it worked for about a month or so. After that, my under eyes seemed to adjust to the formula so it didn’t make that much of a difference after /: Also, I want to try out this mascara now! 🙂

I just started to use the eye cream, and I enjoy it. Everyone says it’s great for de-puffing eyes, but I don’t really have that problem to begin with, so I can’t say much there! But I do like how moisturizing it is, and a little goes a long way.

Thanks! Weekly brands are helping me focus on what I can write on in my collection, LOL! If you can get your hands on 100% pure, I would highly suggest them. The lip product review going up tomorrow too is really nice 😀
