A look into beauty, that doesn't harm our furry friends
I can’t believe this is the first Sample Sunday post I’ve written since JUNE! My goodness, what is wrong with me?! I definitely have a huge pile of samples, and they’re just collecting dust, yikes >0<. Hopefully I will fix this problem ASAP, but for now, let’s look at the 5 fun samples I got from Spirit Beauty Lounge.
Spirit Beauty Lounge isn’t a specific brand, rather an online retailer for organic beauty companies. They carry a wide array of different products; makeup, hair care, skin care, fragrance, as well as bath and body. I came across this site when I was in search of a retailer that carried Kjaer Weis and RMS Beauty. I just happened to be hearing more and more about both brands, which made me curious to get my hands on some things. Neither brand is really cheap though, so the idea of biting the bullet on a few products was a tough pill to swallow. That’s when one of the best features of Spirit Beauty Lounge came to play, their customizable sample kits. As long as the product can be made into a small sample, you can request 6 for a flat price of $25. I think this is a fantastic idea! If it’s makeup, you usually get the small paint-pot samples, where if it’s a lotion or liquid you get a small vial tube container. For a lot of the brands Spirit Beauty Lounge offers, it’s hard to find them in actual stores, let alone if that store has any samples for you to play with. With these, you can get usually 2-4 applications with each, so you should be able to get a good idea if you like the product or not.
For my five, I decided to go with all makeup products- two were foundations, and three were blushes/lip tints.
For the blushes/lip tints, I wanted to aim for more dark colors since we’re getting closer to fall, and none of these colors disappointed. Lovely is a darker pink that would look great on just about anyone’s cheeks, while Sensuous Plum is a beautiful plum-berry that starts off faint on the lips but you can build it up to a medium opacity. Re-swatching Sensuous Plum now.. I really want to have this color in my collection, it’s soo pretty! Modest is described as “a fresh, rich berry pink color”, but the best way to describe it is that it makes you cheeks look young and alive! Its a warmer color, but it just fits in perfectly both for summer and fall. As for the foundations, there were -a lot- of misses here, but it’s good to know right from wrong. I did not like the formula of the W3LL PEOPLE Narcissict foundation stick- as I try to re-swatch it now, it has formed a thick, hard film over itself, and I’m pretty sure that it’s just gonna go in the trash ASAP. The Kjaer Weiss formulation was fine, but the color was absolutely off the mark, oops. On the bright side, it’s a tad bit more peachy-orange than my skin color, which makes is perfect for concealing my under-eyes. So it won’t go unused, huzzah! Lastly, the RMS Beauty foundation/concealer took a little getting used to, but I’ve kinda fallen in love with it. It’s not a formula I can use every day because my skin tends to get slightly clogged up by all oils, but I can alternate to each other day and it works out really well for me. I think my perfect shade would be between the “00” and the next color up, but I can get away with the lightest shade for now, as long as I don’t globb it on…
In the end, Spirit Beauty Lounge had a flash sale of 20% off their site, so I went in for the kill and purchased full sizes of the RMS Beauty lip2cheek in “Modest” and ‘un’cover-up in “00”.Which you already know, because I just wrote reviews on both “Modest” and “00” earlier, woop woop. Both products have been big thumbs up in my book, and I’m happy that I’ve stumbled both on the brands and the site. There are a ton of brands available through Spirit Beauty Lounge- are you interested in anything they’re carrying? Plus, it’s worth it to note that every line they carry is cruelty free and contain no animal ingredients (** **Some exceptions, e.g. humane organic milk, beeswax).
