A look into beauty, that doesn't harm our furry friends
Behold, the Real Techniques Starter Kit eyebrush set! I mentioned these brushes in my September Favs, Rage, and Craves video and they are making their way to the front of my most-reached-for-eye brushes. Now these aren’t anything new to the market, but they’re new to me and I’m loving them. First things first, the bristles are made out of synthetic Taklon bristles, which means they are 100% cruelty free, huzzah! You’d be surprised in how many brushes still use animal hair, and even claim to be cruelty free…hmmm… Don’t fret though, just because the bristles are synthetic doesn’t mean they’re rough. They have that perfect balance of soft and stiff so they can provide the best application on the eyes. Also the handles are very light as they’re made out of aluminum- but still have such a beautiful purple color to them. Each handle has the brush name towards the end as well, which is super awesome when you’re filming and can’t remember what you have in your hand off the top of your head.
The kit itself is a handy to-go package, that also transforms into a stand. I do like the option, but realistically I don’t think I’ll be using it much, even if I travel. I’d rather have all my brushes in one makeup pouch, but the kit would be great if you just needed these 5, especially in keeping the bristles protected.
Alrighty, time to examine each brush. Let’s talk about the two that are in focus on the right: second from the end is the Base Shadow brush, and man oh man this brush has stolen my heart! It’s the perfect shape to apply shadow over the lid, and has easily replaced my Ecotools Full Eyeshadow brush. Next to it on the end is the Deluxe Crease brush, and for me this is the scariest brush out of the bunch! It’s so flippin’ HUGE! I can’t imagine picking up color with this and then applying it along my crease, it’s just way too big. Luckily for me, I have some awesome viewers on Youtube who’ve already mentioned using this brush for concealer, specifically under the eye. I’ll try it out that way and see how it goes!
Keepin’ ya on your toes, let’s talk from the center brush and move to the right. The brush that actually convinced me to get this whole set was the middle one, the Accent brush. The fact that it is soo tiny and flat makes this PERFECT for precision shadow application. If you’re going for a dramatic look but need that pigment in the right place, this is your guy. Next brush to the right is the Pixel-point eyeliner brush, which I haven’t tried yet, so I’ll have to keep that in mind when I apply liner next time. Last of the bunch on the far right is the Brow brush, which is another one I’m seriously in love with. Usually when I fill in my brows, I have to dip my brush into the pomade many times to color one eye. With the RT Brow brush, it’s just one generous loading of the brush and I can get one brow done, easy peasy. Plus, since the bristles are more coarse and stiff, it leaves the edges of my eyebrows smoother, appearing less like they’ve been painted on. More natural = win, yay! Have any of you tried these brushes yet? I also have the Expert Face Brush and the Blush Brush, and I also use those every day, love love love. I have my eyes on the new set they have starting this month, Nic’s Picks. Soo many brushes, soo little time!
