A look into beauty, that doesn't harm our furry friends
I feel like I’ve come a long way with perfecting my “base” makeup- foundation and concealers were always a tricky area for me in regards to color, formula, and longevity. Who knew that my holy grail trio would come from just 1 brand? Seriously, this post is in no way sponsored! I had to laugh when I realized I had a winning combination from just one company. It Cosmetics is a newer brand to me since mid-2014, and there hasn’t been a product I haven’t fallen in love with. First was the Naturally Pretty eyeshadow palette, soon followed by the plethora of brushes available exclusively at Ulta. Then I dove into their foundation and concealer options, and they’ve come out on top in my collection. If I want a flawless face, I know I can count on these.
First up, and newest in the bunch, is the Bye Bye Redness cream. Not only does this cancel out any redness (any surprises there?), but it actually is potent enough to blur out any acne scars. The downside is that there aren’t a variety of colors, and this would probably only work on fair to medium skin tones. I could just get away with using this as a spot treatment, but upon close inspection you would notice a difference in skin tones. Just dabbing this on my trouble-areas first, and then applying my foundation over it creates a seamlessly even tone for my skin. So acne scars along with redness I get along my chin and nose get a little TLC from this before going over my face with foundation. Also, a little goes A LONG WAY. I think I can use this daily and have this pot for probably….6 months? Just estimating so far, but I’ve had it for 3 weeks and I feel like I’ve barely made a dent. I’ve just cleaned off the inner-cap, lol! Since this is such a tricky color-match, I would highly suggest playing around with this at Ulta along with a little bit of your foundation of choice on top.
What’s great about It Cosmetics is that all of the products are made with anti-aging ingredients and properties, and the first place you want to start focusing a little TLC on is your under eye area, right? Next up is a product that needs the warning label of “a little goes a long way”, the Bye Bye Under Eye concealer. This is just the sample size, and oh lordie this will probably take me forever to use up as well! This is a super-hydrating under eye concealer that is rather thick, which did cause me some trouble when I first started learning how to use it. I’m used to using formulas that are more of a solid, and warming it up between my fingers/on my skin. This is a bit different, where you need just a pin-drop (crazy, I know) on your finger, spread it evenly on two fingers, and dab on your under eyes. Yes, 1 pin-drop is enough for both eyes. I usually go in with a fluffy concealer brush after applying initially with my fingers to make it look as flawless as possible and prevent creasing. If you’re getting any signs of creasing, it’s probably because you’ve used too much, so be careful! There are 4 shades available, and I use the color neutral medium- which is weird considering I use the lightest shade for the next item, yet this is the 2nd to lightest shade for concealer. I guess if I really wanted to go for that bright, highlighted under eye look I could use the fairest, but it sounds silly considering the thick & rich formula this has being slathered all over my face.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Your Skin But Better CC+ Color Correcting Full Coverage Cream. Yes, it really does have a long name, and its not that fun to type out, so I’ll just refer to it as the CC+ cream, hehe. Usually the idea of a CC cream is to be thin, and just enough to even the skin tone. Yet check back on the original title- this is a full coverage cream. Usually I steer clear of any foundation that boasts being full coverage, but I love this stuff! It’s not just a foundation, but it also has moisturizing properties, PLUS it has a SPF of 50+ (physical, not chemical, yay!)! So even though this may come at a higher price tag ($38), there are so many things it’s doing for you at once. On top of that, a little goes a long way! I use just half a pump, and can get full coverage over my entire face. I’ve seen some people apply this with their fingertips, and I haven’t had luck with that. I actually go in with a buffing brush, and it just blends so easily onto the skin. I’ve used this plenty of times to say with confidence that it lasts all day. The only gripe I had was with the feel of it originally. My skin is super weird, and notices when there is an SPF in a product, because it just feels… slightly heavier and different? I can’t explain it very well, sorry for being vague. Yet I was comparing this formula with all my light to medium coverage foundations (without any SPF), so of course it was going to feel different! Then I tested out a full-coverage foundation from Hourglass, and homans, THAT just felt weird. The CC+ cream felt like nothing compared to the Hourglass foundation. (Which led me to immediately return the Hourglass foundation to Sephora and lovingly hug this little bottle). Which brings us to the last bullet point to talk about- the packaging. I LOVE this packaging! It’s a plastic container with a sleek metal cap and a proper pump. I’ve easily found my measurement, just half a pump, and I can get it with ease each time. It keeps the product inside sterile, and less mess everywhere. Plus, when I start to run low, since the packaging is a plastic tube I can cut it open and salvage any remaining cream, so I can use every last drop. If dropping $38 is a little steep for a foundation/moisturizer, Ulta does sell a travel size version at $15. There are 5 different shades available, and I can get away with the lightest shade “Fair”.
Whew, that was a lot to cover! Have you tried any of these yet? Or are you interested in testing out the samplers at your local Ulta? If anything, the travel sizes could be the perfect extra for an online order if you’re just shy of $50 for free S&H. 😉
